Practitioner Spotlight: Peter Hess® Therapy Sound Bowls

I’m Jana Hess, and I carry forward our family’s work through Hess Sound — creating hand-crafted, high-quality sound bowls that help people slow down, relax, and reconnect with themselves.

The story began with my father, Peter Hess, who developed the original sound massage method — and his vision is still at the heart of everything we do.

Today, I continue that legacy with the same care and dedication, bringing our work from Germany to the U.S. and sharing it with a growing community of sound lovers, therapists, and wellness seekers.

At Hess Sound, we create the original Peter Hess® Therapy, Sangha, Assam, and Zen Bowls, along with selected instruments and accessories. Each piece is crafted with patience, precision, and heart — so the sounds you hear can truly touch both body and mind.

I first discovered my connection to sound in my teenage years, helping my parents at trade fairs and handwriting our early catalogs — back when everything still felt small and personal.

In 2002, I began my first training in the Peter Hess® Sound Massage, and that’s when I truly understood how deeply sound can touch and transform people.

From there, I started working in our family company, learning every part of the process — from production to sound work — and slowly found my own path within it.

I’d say the Heart Chakra — it’s all about love, compassion, and connection. It reminds me to stay open, to listen, and to meet others (and myself) with kindness. For me, that’s what sound is too: it’s a bridge between people, a frequency that carries empathy and peace. When I work with sound, I feel centered right there — in the heart.

I’d say empathy and calm.

I believe I have a way of creating space — for people, for sound, for stillness — where things can unfold naturally. I try to listen deeply, whether it’s to a person or to the vibration of a bowl. That’s where connection happens.

And maybe another one: seeing the big picture while staying grounded. Running a family business means balancing heart and hands — staying true to the roots while growing something new.

I live between northern Germany and the U.S., spending time in both places. In Germany, I’m surrounded by nature — open fields, quiet mornings, and the rhythm of everyday life in a small village. That’s where I recharge and stay grounded.

In the U.S., there’s a different kind of energy — creative, curious, and open to new ideas. Being between these two worlds keeps me balanced. One reminds me of stillness, the other of movement. Both flow into my work and into the sounds we create at Hess Sound.

I felt that Aura Sanctuary and Hess Sound simply belong together. The idea of working with energy, chakras, and the subtle layers of the self resonates deeply with what we do through sound. Both are about creating balance, awareness, and connection — not just on a physical level, but in the whole field of being.

So joining the Aura Sanctuary Pop-Up felt like a natural match — a space where sound and energy can meet and amplify each other.
